Community Service Hours
STUDENTS MUST COMPLETE A MINIMUM OF 40 HOURS OF COMMUNITY SERVICE HOURS AS ONE OF THE REQUIREMENTS FOR AN ONTARIO SECONDARY SCHOOL DIPLOMA (OSSD). STUDENTS MAY BEGIN TO COMPLETE THEIR VOLUNTEER HOURS ON THE FIRST DAY OF JULY AFTER THEY LEAVE GRADE 8.
At the Wellington Catholic District School Board, community service is not just a diploma requirement for our students; it can be a transformative experience. Through active engagement, students deepen their understanding and appreciation of themselves and their God-given gifts. This journey helps them discover purose, dignity, and vocation in work that honours the rights of others and contributes to the greater good.

Opt-Out Online Learning Form
Students are now required to earn two online learning credits to graduate from secondary school beginning with every student who entered Grade 9 in the 2020-21 school year. Online learning (formally known as eLearning) refers to courses that are offered asynchronously and do not require students to be physically present with one another or with their teacher in school. Descriptions of eligible and ineligible courses for this graduation requirement can be found on the Board website. Parents/Guardians may choose to opt their child out of the mandatory online learning courses required for graduation.
This opt-out form is included as part of the annual course selection process for all Catholic secondary school students. The opt-out form will be included in the student's OSR (Ontario Student Record).

Note: You will have to use your school email to access this form (eg. [email protected]), please do so with parental/guardian approval if you are under 18 years of age.
18+ Consent Form for St. James Catholic High School
According to the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act, access to information for students aged 18 or older is available only to the student and to the school personnel. The information covered by this legistlation includes:
1. Attendance (e.g., notification regarding absences)
2. Behaviour (e.g., suspension letters)
3. Academic Progress
4. Any other information contained in a student's Ontario Student Record (O.S.R).
We strongly encourage students who will be 18 to discuss this important decision with parent(s)/guardian(s) so that, as a family, an informed decision can be made about the signing of this form. Please note that, if your parent(s)/guardian(s) do not have access to this information, they will not be in a position to speak on behalf of the 18 year-old student in any dealings with school officials, as they will not have complete, accurate information on which to base their comments.
We believe that communication with the student and parent(s)/guardian(s) is important for ensuring that all supports are in place to assist a student while attending St. James, regardless of age. However, it is possible that a student who is 18 can ask that communication with parent(s)/guardian(s) does not continue.
If you are currently 18 years of age or older and are attending St. James High School and have yet to fill out this form, please CLICK HERE!
Note: You will have to use your school email to access this form (eg. [email protected]).
