Advanced Placement at St. James

The Advanced Placement Program

The College Board, a not-for-profit membership association whose mission is to connect students to university success and opportunity, started the Advanced Placement Program in 1955. The Advanced Placement Program (AP) enables students to pursue university-level studies while in high school. AP is the most widespread university preparation program in the world recognized by universities in Canada, the United States and in over 60 countries around the world.

Taking an AP course helps students build critical thinking skills, confidence, and the essential time management and study skills needed for University success
Students will receive an Ontario Secondary School credit and their report card will reflect their achievement of those expectations.

Students will learn the Advanced Placement Curriculum, which they will be assessed on in their exams held in the month of May. AP teachers will meet with students weekly from February to May to continue to review this curriculum and prepare for the exam. Based on their exam score, students will receive advanced standing at most Ontario Universities.
